Overview

Browse the catalog, record on a schedule.

Stoarama is a public catalog of live video streams you can browse without an account. It also runs a paid recorder that captures a stream on a schedule and saves each clip you can download.

Browsing is free. Recording needs a signed-in account and a card on file.

How it works

From browse to clips

  • Browse the catalog. No account needed.
  • Open a stream to see its metadata, a live preview where the source allows it, and a self-record command.
  • Sign in (emailed link, no password) and set up a recording on your recordings.
  • Watch, download, or delete your clips, and see your bill on your account.
What recording costs

Pay for what you record

$0.05 per recording-hour, plus your choice of storage.

  • $0.05 for each hour a recording captures at least one clip. An hour that captures nothing is free.
  • Managed storage bills $0.10 per hour of footage, per month, for the time each clip is kept.
  • Record to your own NAS instead and storage is free (you keep clips on your own NAS).
  • Billed once a month, at the end of the month, to a card on file via Stripe. Adding a card does not charge you.
Recorder

Record any public HLS or HTTPS stream.

A recording captures one stream on a schedule and writes each clip. Set it up on your recordings.

You point it at a stream, pick how often it fires and how long each clip is, and choose where the clips land.

Sources

What can be recorded

  • A public HLS stream (a .m3u8 URL).
  • A direct HTTP(S) video stream.
  • YouTube is view-only and cannot be hosted-recorded. To capture a YouTube stream, use the yt-dlp command on its detail page from your own machine.
Schedule & clip length

How often, how long

  • Presets: every 15 min, every 30 min, hourly, every 4 hours, daily at a time in your timezone, or a custom 5-field cron.
  • Fires are at least 10 minutes apart.
  • Clip length: 1, 5, or 10 minutes. It must be shorter than the gap between fires.
Storage

Managed or your own NAS

  • Managed storage bills $0.10 per hour of footage, per month, for the time each clip is kept. Delete a clip and its charge stops.
  • Your own NAS keeps clips on your hardware. A small client pulls each clip on a poll, Stoarama verifies the download, then releases its managed copy. Storage is free while your NAS is pulling clips. If it falls behind, clips we hold past 24 hours bill at $0.10 per hour of footage, per month, until it catches up.
Managing recordings

Pause, resume, delete

  • Your recordings list shows each recording's status and health, a live cost ledger, and a per-recording monthly estimate.
  • Pause or resume a recording at any time, or delete it.
Clips

Working with captured clips

  • Each recording has its own clip page with a paginated list. View a clip inline or download it.
  • Download all clips on the page as a ZIP with an in-zip manifest.csv (including capture generation, sequence, and SHA-256 provenance), ordered concat.txt, and quality-preserving FFmpeg instructions in STITCHING.txt.
  • Delete a single clip or all clips for a recording.
Catalog & self-record

Browse the catalog, or capture it yourself.

The catalog is open to everyone. Each stream has a detail page with its metadata, a live preview where the source allows it, a Record this stream button that opens the recorder pre-filled, and a copy-paste command to capture it from your own machine.

Browsing

Catalog segments

  • Recordable: HLS and direct-video streams the hosted recorder accepts.
  • Still image: snapshot sources that refresh on a poll.
  • YouTube: view-only streams you can watch and self-record.
  • Korea: streams from Korean public sources.
Record this yourself

Capture on your own machine

Each detail page gives a command tailored to the stream type. For an HLS or direct-video stream:

ffmpeg -i "<resolved .m3u8 or HTTPS URL>" -t 60 -c copy "stream.mp4"

For a YouTube stream:

yt-dlp "<watch URL>"

Both need the named tool installed. -t 60 records 60 seconds; remove it to record until you stop.
